So, I rewatched Julie & Julia last week and decided to make Beouf Bourguinon one day. Started cooking this at 11pm and finished at 4am. To be fair I slept for an hour from 2 to 3. I would say this dish is pretty easy to make, but pretty easy to make wrong too. Literally everything that could've gone wrong went wrong. I should've bought bigger chunks of beef coz I had to individually sear each piece of meat. Thankfully Mike helped out with the frying so it wasn't too bad. Then the mushrooms I didn't cook it properly. Don't crowd the mushrooms! Srsly! Lastly, I didn't manage to find white onions. Literally went to 3 shops, Waitrose, International Foods and the local grocers and NONE of them had them white onions. I asked the grocer and he said if the 2 others didn't have them you should just give up. So to substitute I just used some scallions and red onions. Oh well.
With so many things going wrong you would think the dish would be crap. But the ultimate test was having my French housemate taste it and he gave the thumbs up! Woohoo! He said it tastes like what his mom cooks cept his mom puts in more carrots. Oh well. Beouf Bourguinon success!
