1st Attempt: Fruit Tart
Alright so I cheated my arse off and bought a pre-made sweet pastry base from Waitrose coz I couldn't be bothered to buy a fluted pastry pan when I only have 2 months more here. So anyway, never made pastry cream before, nearly botched it up by adding milk to the egg yolk and sugar mixture before the flour and cornflour which was supposed to go in first but that didn't screw things up which was good. Unfortunately, it was looking quite liquid-y so i thought I didn't add enough flour and cornflour, so I added an extra tablespoon of each. What I didn't know was that when you boil it thickens in like 3 seconds which was quite a sight to behold. My pastry cream was a little too thick and had a consistency of jelly rather than cream. Oh well, first time. The only other step was to melt the apricot jam and apply it to the base to prevent the pastry cream from soaking the base rendering it soggy and also to the strawberries and kiwi to make it nice and shiny. Lastly, pour in the cream and throw the fruits on top and voila fruit tart!
